War Machine is one of the most viewed movies on Netflix in recent years, following the story of a U.S. Army sergeant who must face a peculiar war machine that seeks to kill him and his entire platoon during a training exercise.
So it shouldn’t surprise us that they have greenlit a sequel to the film. With Patrick Hughes, director of the original film, set to direct this sequel, he will co-write it with James Beaufort and produce it alongside Todd Lieberman.
Netflix has found itself in killer robots
While we do not know what the story of this sequel will be, War Machine ended in a relatively open way. With the protagonist being assigned to lead the next assault against the machines that the characters are fighting, it is logical to think that they will continue to develop the idea that there is a whole alien invasion underway and how humans are actively fighting against it.
Having premiered on March 26, it has garnered 139 million views, making it one of the 10 most-watched original movies in the history of the platform. Although the critics were divided regarding the film, it was generally praised for its ability to articulate excellent action and science fiction escapism.
Without a release date, we will still have to wait to learn the details. But it seems that Netflix has found a movie to turn into a franchise.
