In mid-April of 2023, Nintendo‘s indie game event gave us a great gift: the first trailer for Blasphemous 2. The production developed by the Seville-based studio The Game Kitchen was showcased in a magnificent display, allowing us to see how The Penitent would look in this second installment, along with a release window: late summer. Now, thanks to the new trailer, we finally have a definitive date.
Initially, this video was scheduled to be shown at 19:46 Spanish time during the IGN Summer of Gaming. Many players received a notice directing them to that time to see the updates on Blasphemous 2. However, the surprise was slightly spoiled earlier, and not precisely due to a leak: the new trailer with the release date for August 24th is fully available to the public.
If you just enter the PlayStation Store and go to the Blasphemous 2 page, the impressive trailer appears prominently. The footage once again shows El Penitente delivering powerful strikes with the three available weapons: the sword, dagger and rapier, and the incense burner. Additionally, it showcases the new look of the game’s cinematics, which boast the same quality as the announcement of the last downloadable content for Blasphemous 1.
Developed by the Andalusian team, Blasphemous 2 promises to become one of the standout metroidvanias of 2023. Its commitment to improving upon the foundations of the first installment while continuing to leverage the iconic imagery of its setting positions it as one of the main representatives of what’s to come.
Blasphemous 2 will be playable on August 24th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be released later.
