Nintendo may still be working on Switch 2 docked VRR: a new job listing suggests so

Nintendo put up a Senior Display Engineer listing on its careers site today, and it hints that the company may still be working on docked variable refresh rate for Nintendo Switch 2. That stands out because Nintendo said before launch that VRR support would be limited to the built-in screen.

In the listing, Nintendo says the engineer would help “architect, design, and implement display driver stack for current and future products.” The preferred background includes HDR, VRR, HDMI, and DisplayPort, although that by itself doesn’t confirm an update is on the way.

If you play on a TV or monitor, this is one to watch. VRR helps cut down on tearing and stutter, and reporting from outlets including Digital Foundry has pointed to the dock’s DisplayPort-to-HDMI path as the likeliest obstacle. Testing cited by those same outlets also suggests the dock can handle VRR with other devices.

That leaves open the possibility of a firmware fix, similar to Sony’s post-launch VRR update for PlayStation 5.
