Nintendo Switch 2 gets more specific release dates: price rises to $500

Nintendo has tightened up The Nintendo Switch 2 release schedule, and the 2026 to 2027 lineup now has a few real dates attached to it instead of broad placeholders.

On the first-party side, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is now slated for 2026, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave lands on September 17, 2026, and Xenoblade Genesis is penciled in for 2027. There’s also more Pokémon Pokopia DLC on the way.

The third-party calendar is filling out too. Lies of P: Complete Edition arrives on August 6, Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen follows on October 9, and the Kingdom Hearts collections are coming over as well, with Kingdom Hearts 3 + Re Mind set for October 8.

The hardware story around Switch 2 is a little messier. The console launched on June 5, 2025, moved 23.68 million units by June 2026, and will sell for $500 in the U.S. starting September 1 after a $50 increase tied to tariffs and component costs. Japan has already seen similar price changes.

Even with that, analysts still see the Nintendo Switch 2 as a big launch. Hardware sales dropped 34.4% from the launch quarter, but software held up better than expected.

If you play on Switch 2 a lot, this batch of releases looks pretty easy to justify. That said, third-party games are still running behind Nintendo’s own releases, which made up 81% of early physical sales. Some of the gains publishers are posting also seem to be driven more by pricing than momentum, and Nintendo Switch 2 Game Key Cards are still getting plenty of pushback.

You’re getting all of this on a system with a 7.9-inch LCD, 256GB of storage, and 4K output when docked. Put together, that gives the Nintendo Switch 2 a more premium feel, both on the Nintendo eShop and on store shelves.
