Mine orange-growth comets in debris fields for station-building recipes

The Cosmos update for No Man’s Sky is live now, and it adds Comet Dust, a new material connected to the update’s broader push into space gameplay, including player-owned space stations you can customize.
It’s worth gathering early. Comet Dust is mainly used to craft exterior design pieces and station customization modules, so it’s more useful than lucrative. To find it, use your ship’s star system map to scan for Planetoid Debris. Ice Belts are a little different and don’t follow the usual comet layout. Once you’ve found the right field, hop out of your ship and mine the smaller comets with the orange growths using your multitool. If you use ship weapons, you’ll only get Salvage.
Ice Field areas are also worth checking if you need a backup spot. They can contain Comet Dust, and they may also drop Stellar Geodes, which can be processed into Stellar Ice. Just don’t mix up Comet Dust with Comet Droplets, the older commodity item. Comet Dust doesn’t have a fixed Units value, and its real importance is in station-building recipes.
If station customization is on your list, this update is an easy pickup. Recipe lists still aren’t fully mapped out, so when you run into comet-heavy debris fields, mine them then and there. It’ll save you from circling back later.
The Cosmos update is available now in No Man’s Sky.
