Nobody knew it, but this mysterious Andrew Garfield movie is… Robin Hood’s origin story!

Robin Hood is the legend that will never stop fascinating us. This year alone we’ve already had Hugh Jackman playing him in his final days in The Death of Robin Hood (which delivered exactly what it promised), now, as we’ve learned, an origin story… that had been kept secret until now is about to be released.

It Hit the Bull’s-Eye

At first, this new film was titled The Uprising (in Spain, The Man Who Defied the King) and was about a peasant who, seeing the people around him die, decides to start a revolt against King Richard III, becoming an unlikely leader. What we didn’t know is that the film, directed by Paul Greengrass, will now have another subtitle: “The Origin of Robin Hood”.

Although it was originally going to tell the true story of a 14th-century uprising against the nobles, it will actually blend fact and fiction to the delight of fans of the outlaw. This new Hood will be none other than Andrew Garfield, and if it does well, who knows? Maybe he’ll have a new franchise to call his own.

The film will be released in the United States on September 14 (and on October 30 in Spain), and it promises to be one of the year’s biggest releases… If, in this landscape, packed with new releases, anyone goes to see it. Its budget is around $18 million, so it’s likely that, with moviegoing getting back to normal, it’ll make back what it cost and earn a little bit more. Just in case, get your bowstring ready.
