Not all iOS 8 features available at launch

iOS 8, the latest mobile operating system from Apple for its iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices will be released on September 17th, but not all of its originally advertised features will be available from launch.

As the next version of OS X, Yosemite, will not be out until later this year, you won’t be able to send or receive messages on Macs. According to Apple, this will be possible in October, so we can assume that Yosemite will be out by then.

The iCloud Photo Library, which was available in beta versions of iOS 8 has been removed from the ‘golden master’ release, which is the same as what we’ll see on September 17th. Any mention of the feature, which allows for automatic cloud storage of photos, has also been removed from its website.

This is most likely a response to the stolen celebrity photos scandal. iCloud Photo Library will return as a beta feature during October, so it’s probably undergoing an overhaul of its security features, as Apple won’t want a repeat of that story, and it’s important that users feel comfortable and secure using iCloud.
