NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix 616.86 is out now: browser and RDP fixes

NVIDIA pushed out GeForce Hotfix Driver 616.86 today. The update fixes browser flickering on some websites, problems creating virtual displays, and black screens during Remote Desktop sessions, according to the company.

That said, this is only a partial follow-up to GeForce Hotfix Driver 616.56. It still doesn’t address the larger 8-bit display bug that can trigger white or black flashes and color corruption in games, on the Windows desktop, and during video playback, NVIDIA says.

NVIDIA says it’s working on that issue. It still hasn’t shared a timeline, or any technical explanation for what’s causing it.

So if you’ve been hit by the browser , virtual display, or Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) issues, this hotfix is probably worth installing. If you’re on an 8-bit monitor, though, you may still be better off waiting or rolling back to an older driver if stability matters more.

Another option, if your display supports it, is to switch from 8-bit to 10-bit color as a temporary workaround.

Driver 616.86 is available now as an optional , beta-style hotfix from NVIDIA. As usual with hotfix releases, it comes with more limited QA than a standard WHQL driver, according to the company.
