One Piece makes a radical change in the release format that you don't expect

The iconic anime ‘One Piece’ has announced a historic change in its format starting in 2026, when it will transition to a seasonal model after more than two decades of uninterrupted weekly broadcasts. This adjustment comes after a significant hiatus last year that allowed Toei Animation to improve the quality of the animation, specifically in the Egghead Arc. During this break, a remaster of the Fish-Man Island Saga was aired, suggesting that the production of ‘One Piece’ aims to adapt to the modern demands of the industry.

Watch out for the new designs

Starting in 2026, the anime will begin airing 26 new episodes per year, allowing for a more measured pace in the adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, where each episode of the anime will correspond to one from the manga. This should minimize the occurrence of filler episodes and provide better quality in the animation. Additionally, ‘One Piece’ will enter a new quarterly break starting in January 2026, returning in April with the anticipated Elbaf Arc, which promises to take fans to the island of Giants.

New character designs for the Straw Hats have been revealed, inspired by Viking style, which has excited the fanbase. At the same time, Toei aims to elevate the quality of the anime in light of competition from other projects, such as Wit’s remake, ‘The One Piece.’ This renewed focus will not only benefit the narrative of the anime but also highlights the intention to keep the series relevant in an increasingly demanding environment in terms of quality and production.

In addition, there is the possibility of a remaster of previous sagas, such as Dressrosa, which could mean renewed interest from fans. With these improvements, ‘One Piece’ is laying the groundwork for a promising future.
