Open Range is now streaming on AMC+: Kevin Costner’s Western returns

Open Range, Kevin Costner’s 2003 Western, is streaming on AMC+ again, putting the 139-minute film back in circulation after spending a long time off the major streaming services.

If you’ve been looking around for Open Range online, AMC+ is where it’s landed. That gives one of Costner’s most popular Westerns a bit of new attention at a moment when Horizon: An American Saga is dealing with mixed reviews, a soft box-office start for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, and a delay for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2.

Costner directed the film and stars in it with Robert Duvall. Open Range adapts Lauran Paine’s The Open Range Men and follows two cattlemen whose life on the open range comes under threat from a corrupt land baron, playing things with old-school storytelling, a grounded sense of realism, and a final gunfight people still bring up.

The numbers back up its reputation too: Open Range holds a 79% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, an 84% audience score, and made more than $68 million worldwide on a reported $22 million budget. If you want the more broadly embraced side of Kevin Costner’s Western run, this is a pretty good place to go.

You can watch Open Range on AMC+, and if you’re in the mood for another Costner Western, his 1994 film Wyatt Earp is also on Netflix.
