OpenAI has introduced a widget for the Android app of ChatGPT, its popular artificial intelligence chatbot, which allows for quicker access from the home screen. This is the latest in a series of new features that OpenAI is testing at a time when Google is going all out with Gemini, the chatbot formerly known as Bard.
Among the improvements is a memory function, which allows ChatGPT to remember the last conversation you had, eliminating the need to repeat prompts. With the new widget, the company aims to make it easier for users to access ChatGPT.
Mishaal Rahman, a contributor to Android Central, has revealed on his Twitter account the existence of the widget. “ChatGPT for Android now has a widget for the home screen.” The ChatGPT widget includes multiple options, such as shortcuts for text, voice, and video queries.
In addition, the widget, which appeared in version 1.2024.052 of the app, allows users to start a conversation mode, enabling them to interact with the AI chatbot directly from the home screen of their smartphones.
The widget is not available in the current version of ChatGPT on the Google Play Store, version 1.2024.045, so it is possible that it is still in beta phase and there has not been a public release yet.
