This morning at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, we saw Konami introduce more new features coming up in PES 2012. For gamers, the best news is that the demo should be arriving as soon as next week, but the game itself also has some interesting new features.

We’ve covered new gaming features before, but today we took an extensive look at ‘off the ball’ control. You’ll be able to control two players at once, directing an off the ball player to make runs into space for creative passing, for example. This looks good, but is also pretty tricky to control, so we’re happy to see that there are extensive training exercises so you’ll be able to master these new techniques. Don’t be too scared by all this: it’s optional, and there’s semi-automatic control as well as full manual!

The other development is My PES, which links the game with Facebook. You’ll have to install an app in the social network, and sign in via the game, but then you’ll be able to share your scores and statistics, as well as making your own mini leagues and competing in national ones too. Of course, that will only work if your friends aren’t all playing FIFA 12, and it remains to be seen whether this year’s PES can really steal EA’s thunder (and popularity).

Lastly, it was announced that Cristiano Ronaldo is the face of this year’s game, which might not be to everyone’s tastes – especially if you’re a fan of FC Barcelona!

PES 2012 comes out on PC and consoles on Setember 29th. Play the free demo here!
