Facebook is rolling out a new feature on its Android app that allows you to automatically sync pictures you’ve taken on your phone directly to your Facebook account.

With just a click of a button, the new feature will upload the photos you take on your phone and send them directly to Facebook to a private, unpublished tab on Facebook’s new photo page.

This new photo sync feature seems only to be available to select users currently (e.g., I was able to use the feature on my phone but my fellow editor Lewis still isn’t able to on his). Here’s how to check to see if you have the new feature, as well as an overview of how it works. To verify whether or not you have the photo sync feature, go to your profile page on the Facebook for Android app and click your Photos button. At the bottom of your screen, there will be a blue strip of options, with Sync being on the far right if it’s available.

From there, just tap Sync. The feature will give you a short overview of what it does and then begin uploading your phone’s pictures to your Facebook account.

To see if it worked, just head on over to your Facebook account online. Your notifications bar should inform you when the upload has been successful.

If you click on the notification, you’ll be taken to your photos page where you’ll see a tab called Synced From Phone. Click on that and you’ll be able to see which photos got uploaded.

These photos will remain private to you unless you choose to publish them. Simply click the check mark in the upper right corner of any photos you want to share publicly.

It’s a pretty cool feature that’s simple to use. It also seems to limit the amount of your current photos it chooses to upload, which is a relief for me, considering I have more than 700 pictures on my phone. The photo sync feature mercifully only uploaded the 21 most recent of mine, screenshots for this blog post included.

Further information can be found in the Facebook Help Center’s Photo Syncing page.
