Before too long Skype‘s popularity will overtake that of the humble the landline, as a means of phoning friends and loved ones. Aside from the cheapness of the VOIP system, one of the main reasons I cut off my home phone line was because of the sheer amount of extra things you can do with Skype, such as IM, video chat and file exchange. What’s more, it’s possible to beef up the application with a range of complimentary apps to add interesting and fun functionality to the program. Here are some of my favourite Skype add-ons:
- MX Skype Recorder – Record your Skype conversations
- Skype Web Toolbar – Integrate Skype with Firefox
- CrazyTalk Lite for Skype – Create your own animated characters for Skype chats
- Skype Office Toolbar – Make phone calls from within Microsoft Office apps
- MySkype – Access Skype from your mobile phone
- Look2Skype – Instantly call or chat from your Outlook contacts
- KishKish Lie Detector – Find out when your friends are lying to you
- Blaze Audio Voice Cloak – Disguise your voice when calling over VOIP
- Amy – Install a free answering machine into Skype
- DoNaut – Brighten up your conversations by adding these fun sound effects
