Pixel 12 rumors surface: Tensor G7 hints at a big upgrade

Rumors about Google’s Tensor G7 chip are already making the rounds ahead of the Pixel 12 lineup, which isn’t expected until 2027. If any of this pans out, the story sounds familiar: less about topping benchmark charts, more about making the phone feel smarter and smoother in everyday use.

Still, this is early enough that skepticism is the only sensible stance. Tensor G7 and the Pixel 12 family are both supposedly two years out, and there are no confirmed specs, no benchmarks, no pricing, no launch-region details, and nothing solid behind the rumored big upgrade.

The safest guess is that Google sticks with the Tensor formula it already knows. That usually means better day-to-day responsiveness, stronger camera processing, and more attention on translation and voice features than on sheer CPU or GPU muscle.

That’s been the Tensor pattern since the Pixel 6 landed in 2021. For some people, it’s what makes Pixel phones feel distinct. For gamers and power users, it’s also been the sticking point, because they expect full flagship-level performance. If Google does deliver a noticeable step forward, better efficiency, cooler thermals, or improved connectivity sound more plausible than some huge leap in speed. The problem is that no reliable leak says which of those, if any, Google is actually aiming for.

One rumor ties Tensor G7 to the codename Lajolla, following Laguna and Malibu. There’s also the usual 2nm chatter, though at this point that’s still just chatter.

Before any of that, Google still has Tensor G6 to get through. Current rumors point to a seven-core CPU and a MediaTek modem in the Pixel 11, while the Pixel 12 range could again include a standard model, two Pro sizes, and a foldable. There’s nothing to download yet. Right now, it’s mostly a waiting game until real details show up on the CPU, GPU, gaming performance, and whatever feature is supposed to make this chip stand out.
