PlayStation Plus updates today: Rise of the Ronin headlines mid-July

Sony updated PlayStation Plus today, July 15, with its mid-July lineup, and the big addition is Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members on PS5 in the U.S. and UK, Sony says.

In the U.S. and UK, Team Ninja’s open-world action game goes live on July 15. Japan gets it a day later, on July 16. Then, on July 21, Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora lands worldwide for Extra and Premium subscribers. Premium members also get the PlayStation 2 cult favorite Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy that same day, per Sony.

Rise of the Ronin is clearly the main attraction here. You can see Sony leaning on a newer, first-party-style exclusive to give PlayStation Plus some extra weight while the service, now at 51.6 million subscribers, keeps drawing comparisons to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora shows up with good timing too, after reports that its player base jumped 553% alongside the latest Avatar film. And Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy still has its own appeal if you’re into gunplay, telekinesis, physics-heavy combat, and stealth.

This month also brings Dying Light and Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector. At the same time, Risk of Rain 2 and Tropico 6 are on the way out. If you use PlayStation Plus a lot, this batch is worth claiming, even if Sony’s staggered rollout across the U.S., UK, and Japan is going to annoy some players.
