PlayStation Store Summer Sale starts July 15: up to 75% off games

Sony says the PlayStation Store Summer Sale starts July 15 and runs through August 12, with discounts of up to 75% on hundreds of digital games, expansions, and add-ons for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation VR2.

The lineup should cover a pretty wide cross-generation spread. Sony also has a refresh set for July 27, when some of the original deals will disappear and a new batch will take their place. Among the names expected to headline the sale are Elden Ring, Stellar Blade, God of War Ragnarök, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, so it’s probably smart to check prices once at the start and then again after the refresh.

If you buy PlayStation games with any regularity, these are the kind of discounts that are hard to ignore, and they could turn Sony’s PlayStation Store Summer Sale into one of the biggest game-shopping moments of the season. On Sony’s side, it also helps keep players spending during slower release stretches, picking up where June’s Days of Play left off as the company leans further into digital purchases on newer hardware.

Sony also says it plans to stop producing physical game discs in January 2028, and the business logic isn’t hard to see. It keeps all of the revenue from first-party digital sales and takes roughly a 30% cut from third-party PlayStation Store purchases. By Sony’s numbers, digital purchases now make up around 80% of PlayStation game sales, and more than half of newly sold PS5 systems are digital-only models.

Critics, though, keep arguing that an all-digital future chips away at ownership, used games, consumer choice, and price competition. If you want to look through the sale, you can do it from the PlayStation Store on console or on the web.
