Pokémon Pokopia gets Jirachi event next week: befriend the starriest Legendary Pokémon

The Pokémon Company says it will launch Wish Upon A Jirachi, a new event for Pokémon Pokopia, next week, running from June 23 to July 8. Pokémon Pokopia has been one of the biggest releases of the year, not only for Nintendo but for the games business more broadly.

At this point, it’s hard to picture it being left out of this year’s GOTY conversation. If nothing else, Pokémon Pokopia is going to show up on plenty of Game of the Year lists.

More than anything, this announcement shows that The Pokémon Company plans to keep adding to Pokémon Pokopia instead of letting it coast on its launch.

The new Pokémon Pokopia event begins next week and will be available from June 23 to July 8, according to The Pokémon Company’s latest announcement. It’s called Wish Upon A Jirachi and, as the title makes pretty clear, the event is centered entirely on the adorable Legendary Pokémon Jirachi.

To befriend Jirachi, you’ll need to collect lost sparkling wish notes. Once you do, you’ll unlock special items themed around the night sky.

The same announcement also included news about a special Nintendo Switch 2 bundle arriving in July. Starting next month, Nintendo will sell a Nintendo Switch 2 bundle that includes Pokémon Pokopia, which could give another push to a game that’s already sold more than 4 million copies.

Pokémon Pokopia already has a battle pass, and The Pokémon Company says it will be the vehicle for major updates throughout the year. The first update, expected sometime this summer according to The Pokémon Company, will add a new underwater area along with Pokémon connected to that setting, which should make the game feel quite a bit bigger.

So if you’ve been waiting for a good moment to jump into the game everyone keeps talking about, this might be it. Pokémon Pokopia is a hit for a reason.
