Just a few days ago, Sony announced one of the most important events not only for the company’s 2023, but in recent years: a new PlayStation Showcase. The Japanese will show tomorrow Wednesday for more than an hour all the news they have prepared for the PlayStation brand, with PlayStation 5 as the spearhead (of course). However, not only own developed titles will appear, but also third parties, and this is where the million dollar question comes in: is there any chance of seeing GTA 6 at the PlayStation Showcase?

To start answering this, it is necessary to differentiate between the two types of events that PlayStation has. The first one is called State of Play and is characterized by being a shorter show and focused on showing very specific news. For example, we have had State of Play focused on Final Fantasy XVI or Horizon: Forbidden West, as well as others where a potpourri of presentations has been made (such as the one that took place during February of this year). In other words, it is an event of medium or small size that serves to bring news to the forefront.

Apart from this, the other event that Sony has is the PlayStation Showcase. Simply put, this is the most important of all. Last year, during 2022, the Japanese company did not hold one, for example. It may seem strange, but there is only one per year and it is not unreasonable that from the directive is considered appropriate not to present anything and opt, instead, for the State of Play. Therefore, what is meant by this is that when PlayStation holds a Showcase it is because it has a lot of material to show, and not exactly small or of little impact.

Can GTA VI appear here?

Having discussed the two types of events that PlayStation has, there is no doubt that if you had to choose one event to showcase Rockstar Games’ game, it would be the PlayStation Showcase. While the State of Play is usually smaller in scope, the Showcase is expected to be big. At the triple-A level, there is nothing bigger than a Grand Theft Auto video game.

As a curiosity – or not – Grand Theft Auto V was announced in the new generation versions – PS5 and Xbox X Series | S – during a PlayStation Showcase, precisely. It was in September 2021 when the brand opted for the Sony event to present this new version of the famous game.

With all that said, the answer is that yes, there is a chance of seeing GTA 6 at the PlayStation Showcase, especially if we go by past events. Now, it’s time to be a bit ashen and give the other side. Rockstar Games is a company that doesn’t exactly need to be anywhere to promote its games. In fact, we would say that it is rather the opposite: it will focus all the attention wherever it is, to such an extent that it is more likely that they are the ones who publicize the event in question.

For example, with Red Dead Redemption 2 he barely needed to change his Twitter avatar to generate millions of interactions. That was it. That simple move brought a flood of comments that were the prelude to the trailer and the first release date. It didn’t need any company to introduce its game (and they know it).

As a note to note, Take-Two said a week ago in its financial results that during “fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by releasing several groundbreaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to reach over 8 billion in net bookings.” To get that amount between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025 you need to release a monster game. And yes, we all know that’s GTA 6.

There are possibilities, therefore, to see GTA 6 in the PlayStation Showcase, indeed. Now, if the writer had to get wet here, the answer would be that Rockstar Games keeps this bullet for itself.
