A new month has arrived and the VOD platforms are getting ready to continue competing in the streaming war. With the arrival of SkyShowtime and Netflix’s ban on account sharing, it seems that the battle will change a lot in the near future, and March will be crucial to mark the future of what is to come.
In this month of March 2023, it’s not HBO Max or Amazon Prime Video that will bring the most anticipated premieres. It is Disney Plus that seems to be leading the battle, as it has a release that fans have been waiting for a long time: season 3 of The Mandalorian.
However, there are many more premieres that will land on Disney+ throughout March. So we leave you with the most anticipated and, also, with a complete list of all the March premieres on Disney Plus.
The Mandalorian – Season 3 – March 1
The month begins in a big way, as I mentioned, with the arrival of the third season of The Mandalorian. The series starring Pedro Pascal will have 8 new episodes that will be released weekly, so during the next two months we will see the course of the adventure.
In this new season we will see how Mando travels to his original planet, Mandalore, which has been razed by the Empire during the war. After discovering that the different clans of his planet were dispersed throughout the galaxy, Mando must atone for his offenses against his faith and achieve the forgiveness of his culture. To do so, he will have to pass a test in the underground tunnels of his planet, for which he will have the help of the (no longer so small and weak) Grogu.
This challenge will be the backbone of the first episodes of Season 3 of The Mandalorian, but it will not be the only one. After getting the Darksaber, Mando must claim the throne and leadership of his planet Mandalore. It is a position he does not initially want, but which is also sought by Bo-Katan Kryze, who seeks to unite all the scattered clans of the planet, so they will surely end up facing each other for it at some point.
Undoubtedly, the fiction will be a great attraction for fans of the Star Wars universe. After some ups and downs (such as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series or The Book of Boba Fett), Disney+ wants to show that they are still capable of producing great series.
Abbott Elementary – Season 2, Part 1 – March 1
March 1 is a big day, not only because of The Mandalorian but also because of the premiere of the new season of Abbott Elementary. The series that triumphed at the Golden Globes in the comedy series category is hailed by many as the spiritual successor to The Office, and has garnered a legion of fans around the world.
The sitcom is about an American high school, and it will make you laugh for hours and hours thanks to brilliant gags and the enormous naturalness of its characters in situations that range from the most normal in the world to the most bizarre.
The Roar of the Butterflies – March 8
This Latin-Spanish series starring Belén Rueda is one of the most anticipated in the national territory. In it we travel back to 1930 to learn about Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, alias “El Chivo”, who turned the Dominican Republic into a monstrous place where there was no lack of planned assassinations from power, abuses and gender violence, artistic and sports spectacles, and absolute control of the media.
The series tells the point of view of Minerva Mirabal, nicknamed “La Mariposa” (The Butterfly), a woman who put this man in check thanks to her courage and know-how. Undoubtedly, this is a fiction that will give a lot to talk about and will stir consciences.
The Boston Strangler – March 17
Finally, another highly anticipated and sobering release coming to Disney+ this month is The Boston Strangler. The film tells the story of Loretta McLaughlin (Keira Knightley), a reporter for the Record-American newspaper, who becomes the first journalist to link the murders of the notorious Boston Strangler.
As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, Loretta attempts to continue her investigation alongside colleague and confidante Jean Cole (Carrie Coon), but the duo is hampered by the sexism of the times. Nonetheless, McLaughlin and Cole go forward with great courage, taking risks.
