A French company, Appsfire, has launched a new kind of mobile ad which you could be seeing soon on your smartphone. It uses ‘pull to refresh’ in apps and pages, and sticks an ad in the space created when you pull down.

‘Pull to refresh’ is one of the most common gestures on smartphones and touchscreens, and it is surprising that no-one has thought of filling this short space and time with an advertisement before. You can see how intrusive, or not, these ads could be by installing Appsfire’s own Newsfire app. This is a news aggregator app, and features the first test of ‘pull to refresh ads’.

Appfire says these ads could be the end of banner-ads, which can be ugly and intrusive. But pull to refresh ads could mean more ads in apps, not less. Is this a better future for in-app ads? Watch the promotional video below to see how it will work.
