That a video game leaves a subscription service is totally logical. Each month several games usually come and go, that is to say, it is normal. On the other hand, what is not so normal is that one of the games owned by the service’s brand leaves the service. This is the case of Quantum Break on Xbox Game Pass.

Thanks to the “Going away soon” tab of Xbox Game Pass we have been able to know which games will leave Microsoft’s service. Among them is, as we have said, Quantum Break, a title that is exclusive to Xbox and edited by the brand on the previous generation of consoles, Xbox One. The question is, therefore, why this is happening.

For one of Xbox’s exclusives to abandon its own subscription service is extremely rare. The company has not given any specific reason; however, we do have a clear hypothesis: a rights issue. It is not the first time – nor will it be the last – that a video game has been removed from a digital store due to licensing issues. After all, the license may have expired, it may not have been renewed, etc.

In the specific case of Quantum Break, Remedy’s title is full of famous actors’ faces (such as the recently deceased Lance Reddick), so many of these licenses may have expired. For example, it usually happens with video games that incorporate famous songs, where these end up retiring due to the impossibility of renewing the themes (or the cost of these is too expensive and not worth it).

Except for Quantum Break, all the announced video games will leave this coming April 16. They are the following:

  • The Riftbreaker
  • Panzer Corps 2
  • The Long Dark
  • Life is Strange: True Colors
  • The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos – Chicken Edition
  • Moonglow Bay
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
  • Quantum Break
