Realme has stunned everyone with the announcement of the new Realme GT3 during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. And what exactly is so special about it? Well, it supports 240 W SuperVOOC charging. According to the company, you’ll be able to charge the Realme GT3’s 4,600 mAh battery in just 9.5 minutes.

The Realme GT3 will be available from $649 (about 600 euros approximately) in its basic version with 8GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The handset will be available in May and June, as confirmed by Chase Xu (vice president of global marketing at Realme). Of course, this is not a perfect smartphone: the “low” price of the Realme GT3 has meant that certain concessions have to be made in other areas, which we will see below.

The war of the watts has begun

Although we said earlier that Realme had announced this GT3 during the MWC, the truth is that we have to qualify certain things. The reality is that the terminal was already available for purchase but only in China and under the name of Realme GT Neo 5. Realme is a phone manufacturer that is under the umbrella of BBK Electronics along with OnePlus and Oppo (which already showed during last year’s MWC the 240 W fast charging).

If 240W fast charging sounds fast, that’s because it is. Realme claims that we are dealing with “the fastest charging speed possible for USB-C”. The truth is that it is faster than the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition, which supports 210W charging. It also far exceeds the OnePlus mobiles (such as the 10T), which must “settle” for 150 W.

However, Realme’s advantage over other manufacturers may not last long (in fact, Xiaomi is already working on reaching 300 W). While 240 W may be a very high figure, the charging speeds being achieved in other devices are also something to consider. The Realme GT3 is capable of charging in less than 10 minutes, but the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition was already capable of charging its (somewhat smaller) 4,300 mAh battery in 9 minutes and with 210 W fast charging.

Realme GT3: high loading speed and power at a reasonable price

Realme seems to have taken note of the competition (specifically Nothing Phone) and has demonstrated it with the design of this GT3. For starters, on the back we find a small transparent area next to the camera. Here we find at first glance the “processor” (a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1) next to an RGB led light that Realme calls “Pulse Interface”. This functions as a notification LED and will be used for everything: calls, battery charging, messages, etc.

The back is made of glass, but on the other hand, its chassis is made of plastic. Added to the moderate size of the battery we have as a result a fairly light terminal. As for its screen, we have a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a refresh rate of 144 Hz. On the other hand, the cameras are in a three-lens module although it seems to have two lenses: a 50-megapixel main one, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle and a 2-megapixel microscopic one.
