In October 2021, Microsoft issued a safeguard block for Windows 11 if a device was using VirtualBox or any Oracle-related virtual machine software. It was causing massive compatibility issues, resulting in complications with Hyper-V. It seems as if the developers have finally resolved the issue, as the latest VB update works perfectly fine on the operating system.
To give some context, the VirtualBox safeguard block prevents Windows 10 computers from upgrading to Windows 11. While they may have met the other operating system requirements, the virtual machine program would prevent any update from happening. It’s a safety measure Microsoft put into place the moment they realized VB was causing issues.
Initial, Oracle developers suggested removing Windows Hypervisor from the operating system. For those who use Hyper-V for virtual machines, it was far from the perfect solution. Fortunately, they seem to have found a different solution, which is now available in VirtualBox update 6.1.28.
It’s important to note that you won’t be able to move to Windows 11 if you don’t have the new VirtualBox update. Also, there may be other virtual machine programs based on VB or Oracle software causing the same issue, so you’ll need to check if they’re updated. It’s not that Microsoft isn’t trying to make your lives difficult; it’s simply preventing any more complications down the road.
Now when it comes to other features and updates, we’re still dying to see what the next massive Windows 11 update will bring. We’ve had some inside looks as to what might happen next, such as ads in Windows 11 File Manager. In the meantime, we’ll continue enjoying what the operating system and Xbox Games Pass has to offer.
