Resident Evil 4 Remake gets a new Chapter 0 mod: Ashley’s cut prologue is now playable

Modder Thekempy has released Chapter 0, a PC mod for Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake that brings back an opening sequence Capcom cut, rebuilding it as a playable prologue from leftover files and data still tucked away in the game.

Rather than opening with Leon’s final-game arrival in rural Spain, Chapter 0 hands control to Ashley Graham before she’s captured. You move through a dark forest, see a Los Iluminados ritual sacrifice, and slip past Ganados in a setup that leans much harder into stealth and straight survival horror.

It also offers a pretty revealing glimpse at how much Capcom may have changed the remake during development. Fans had already noticed traces of this Ashley material in Capcom’s pre-release marketing, before the company seems to have removed it, probably to make the opening quicker, more action-driven, and easier to replay.

If you’ve been following Resident Evil 4 remake closely, Chapter 0 is well worth a download as a curious piece of the game’s history, even if the unfinished cutscenes, rough spots, and enemy behavior that doesn’t quite work make it feel more like a slice of the game in development than some lost DLC,

and even if you come away thinking the final release works better without it;

it’s also a good reminder that the game’s mod scene is still very much alive years later.

You can download Chapter 0 for the PC version of Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake through the usual modding channels.
