Ronaldinho made his debut in the Kings League. After the resounding announcement just a few days ago, the Brazilian player played his first minutes with Porcinos FC, Ibai Llanos‘ team. We are not going to deny it: his debut was quite decaffeinated, with more noise around him than real facts. After all, the years go by for everyone; and in the case of the former Barça player, his physical shape is not that good either…

The Gaucho looked slow and ponderous. There is no doubt that he is light years away not only from his best version, but also from even the player we knew in the final stage of his career. If his name had not been Ronaldinho, the coach would most likely have changed him after a few minutes, as he was below -and far below- the level of his teammates. But this is the Kings League circus, isn’t it?

In fact, as a curiosity of the day, Pio FC and Porcinos FC drew 0-0. As the reader will know if he follows the competition and its rules, when there is a draw, there is no choice but to take penalties from the midfield and run. It was here that Ronaldinho left us with a hilarious anecdote. While the referees explained to the South American how the kicks were to be taken, he was categorical: “No, no, we are going to put someone else in. I’m not going to be running, let someone else run“. That’s what he said.

Record audience

As expected, Ronaldinho’s debut brought with it the Kings League record to date. According to the data revealed, the audience obtained between Twitch, YouTube, TikTok and Facebook was a total of 2,120,962 viewers, a figure never before achieved in the competition. In fact, these viewers were achieved just at the moment when Ronaldinho took the field.

On the other hand, the cumulative viewership on Twitch also broke the league record. In total, 10.5 million viewers tuned in at some point during the Kings League matchday 8 (and this was only on Twitch).

Queens League, to come

After the huge success of the Kings League in its men’s version, it was a foregone conclusion that we would have a women’s edition. The pilot project has worked well, so from the next edition we will also have the Queens League Oysho.

In total there will be 12 franchises with the same format as the one currently enjoyed. Specifically, the league will kick off next May 6 and end on July 29. “Today is a great day. We are very excited about the start of the Queens League Oysho and we encourage all girls who are passionate about soccer to sign up for the draft and come to the trials,” said Gerard Piqué, president of the competition.

Each and every team will have a president at the head. The idea is that the presidents will also be behind in the management, but that they will remain more as consultants than as presidents per se. The following team presidents are already known:

  • Porcinos: Gemita
  • Ultimate Mostoles: Noe9977
  • Kunisports: Morena Beltrán
  • 1K FC: Mayichi
  • Aniquiladores: Espe
  • Los Troncos FC: Violeta
  • Jijantes FC: Paula Gonu

The rest of the presidents will be announced in the coming weeks, although some may start the league without a release.
