instagram vineWe reported earlier today that Facebook is having a mysterious event on June 20th. At first we speculated that it would be for a Google Reader replacement but now TechCrunch reports that Facebook is preparing to integrate a Vine-like video feature into Instagram. The videos will reportedly be limited to five to ten second clips, which is a big longer than the six seconds that Vine allows.

Vine has been the one of the top 10 free apps in the iTunes App Store for many weeks and it’s not surprising that Facebook has taken notice. Facebook currently doesn’t have a good video strategy, as the social network only allows for uploading and sharing video on Facebook. Instagram and Vine’s brilliance is that you can share photos and videos quickly so it’s logical to blend the two services together.

Facebook has taken more and more cues lately from its rival, Twitter. Last week, Facebook began rolling out hashtag support, which allows users to discover more related content on Facebook. Hashtags from other services like Twitter and Instagram will automatically work within Facebook.
