Sega announces a new Crazy Taxi, but fans are not happy at all

One of the most surprising announcements from the recent Xbox Games Showcase was Crazy Taxi. A beloved Sega arcade series known for its frenetic pace, catchy music, and endless fun will return to current generation consoles and PC to the delight of fans with a revamped visual style, promising to respect everything that made the original game great. Except for one problem. The AI has found a way to make its mark in the game.

The disappointment has arrived when, on the game’s Steam page, it was clarified that the new Crazy Taxi has used AI tools to create the game. While it does not specify for what purpose or to what extent, emphasizing that they were not used to design the characters and that they were used so that the creatives could focus on the artistic tasks of the process, this has not been well received among fans. Creating a bitter taste in an announcement that, initially, had been tremendously celebrated.

An arcade classic

The Crazy Taxi franchise was born in arcades in 1999, later being released on Dreamcast, becoming one of the biggest successes of Sega’s console. From there, a cult success franchise would emerge, with its latest installment, Crazy Taxi: City Rush, being a free-to-play game for Android and iOS released in 2014. More than ten years later, it returns to consoles, originally announced at The Game Awards 2023, but nothing has been known about the game since then.

Named Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the game will have the franchise’s gameplay, but with a greater emphasis on multiplayer. With a generic 2027 for its release and its fans frankly disgusted with what has been shown so far, Sega will have to clarify many things about the game’s development. Because it seems that the use of AI will not go unnoticed among gamers.
