Dune is an epic science fiction saga, and Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation left us all in awe. The director of Arrival‘s movie was only the first of two parts, and the second one was originally scheduled to be released later this year. However, due to the strike by writers and actors, Warner has had to delay its release to March 15, 2024.

But what can we do to pass the time? Well, one option would be to read Frank Herbert’s book or even watch David Lynch’s peculiar movie. However, we have a much better option for fans of high-level science fiction: watch Foundation, the Apple TV+ series that has just premiered its second season.

A series to reflect on our future

Based on Isaac Asimov’s science fiction novel that served as a precursor to everything that would come later, Foundation is a series created by David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman that reflects a vision of science fiction light-years away from what we’re used to in sagas like Star Wars.

This complex series follows the inhabitants of planets under the control of the Galactic Empire, particularly the intrepid efforts of mathematician Dr. Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) to preserve their culture even as the galaxy is imploding.

The series features top-notch political intrigues, profound philosophical reflections, and all kinds of debates that elevate science fiction from mere entertainment to a tool for thinking about our future days. Its first season premiered in 2021 with mixed reviews, but the second season has exceeded all the expectations the audience had for it. Undoubtedly, a great option to take our minds off Dune for a while.
