Snapchat now allows you to make your snaps into Snapchat Stories that can be viewed by all your friends for 24 hours, instead of the usual snaps that are deleted after being viewed once.
Snapchat has become extremely popular with young users, and with Snapchat Stories the service is making itself into something more like a social network. You can mark any snaps you take as part of your Story, and anyone of your Snapchat friends will be able to view them, in chronological order, as many times as they like for the next 24 hours. You can control who is allowed to see your story in Settings.
Tapping and holding any of your Snapchat friends wil start their Story stream. Tapping again with a second finger lets you skip ahead in their story. The 24 hour limit means Snapchat maintains its ephemeral nature, which is what makes it unique: none of the other social networks offer anything like Stories. If its successful, it’ll be interesting to see how other services like Vine and Instagram respond.
