The movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been an impressive success at the box office, with a gross of 220 million dollars in the US market, thus surpassing all the installments of the John Wick saga in terms of domestic revenue. This data reveals the significant impact that the third installment of the Sonic franchise has had, especially considering that the movie features the renowned actor Keanu Reeves, who lends his voice to the character Shadow the Hedgehog.
Although Sonic 3 has reached these numbers in the domestic sphere, the John Wick saga remains dominant on the global stage. John Wick 4, released in 2023, has achieved $440 million worldwide, while Sonic 3 has so far accumulated $424 million in total. Projections suggest that Sonic could get even closer to John Wick’s numbers in the coming weeks.
John Wick doesn’t let the hedgehog win the fight so easily
Since its debut, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie series has surpassed 1 billion dollars in earnings across its three installments. This milestone highlights the success of adapting this iconic video game to the big screen, a feat that many studios have attempted to achieve without success.
With an eye on the future, a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog film has been announced, scheduled for March 2027. Although little is known about the plot, Ben Schwartz is expected to return as the voice of Sonic. Additionally, Jim Carrey has expressed interest in reprising his role as the villain Dr. Robotnik, as long as the script is appealing. Can we expect Sonic to continue expanding? Only time will tell.
