During the last few hours, there is an information that has not stopped circulating in social networks: Sony could acquire Take-Two, the publisher behind the Grand Theft Auto or NBA 2K saga. And yes, we put the condicinal, that hateful “could”, because it is nothing more than a rumor that takes advantage of the wave of layoffs that Take-Two is making in some areas.

The information comes from the account LumberjackRy, a former worker in the video game industry. So far so normal, some may think, but the reality is that as journalist Jason Schreier, one of the most authoritative voices in the press and who does have a stamp and credit, points out, this user misses more than he gets right, not to mention that, right now, it is impossible for Sony to acquire Take-Two. And we explain.

Take-Two is currently worth approximately $20 billion. This amount is really high, as it is almost a third of what Microsoft paid for all of Activision Blizzard. In fact, if we look at acquisitions made by Sony in recent times, last year’s purchase of Bungie amounted to $3.6 billion, a far cry from the $20 billion.

To all this we must add another very important detail. Sony recently announced that it has $5 billion to invest. The amount is high, of course, but it is a quarter of what Take-Two is worth, and this without forgetting that those $5 billion are for all of Sony, not just the PlayStation video game division.

In the future you never know, but at this time, i.e. March 11 at 11:33 a.m., it is impossible for Sony to acquire Take-Two. Moreover, the forecasts with GTA 6 are higher than ever, so there is no compelling reason to see this acquisition viable.
