Sony has just accidentally confirmed the design of its PlayStation 5 Pro—its release is imminent

It’s an open secret that Sony has a version of its console up its sleeve. For over a year now, we have been reading and hearing rumors about a PS5 PRO that would improve, mainly, the current generation’s ray tracing. Other than that, the leap shouldn’t be very big.

Well, despite the strong rumors and the sector’s not doubting that it is a reality, Sony has not said anything to date, which makes the PS5 Pro mere speculation—or so it was until yesterday. Let me explain.

A leak from Sony itself

Sony has started celebrating PlayStation’s 30th anniversary and seems to have confirmed a leak of the PS5 Pro design in the process.

A blog post published today included an image of the 30th anniversary, and eagle-eyed observers have spotted a suspicious-looking PS5 design in the montage that appears identical to last week’s PS5 Pro leak.

Dealabs reported last week that they had seen the retail packaging of the PS5 Pro and created a sketch showing three black stripes in the center of the console’s outer facades.

Those three black stripes can be clearly seen in the Sony assembly image, which looks quite similar to Adidas but unlike the stripe on the PS5. In fact, the existing PS5 model also appears in the assembly, with a single stripe in the center.

Dealabs said they were expecting an announcement during the first half of September, but I don’t think anyone expected it to come in the form of a teaser image from Sony. The official PlayStation account on Instagram even posted the image with a link: “Your first look ?.”

Months ago, we learned that the PS5 Pro is real and that developers have been preparing their games for this new console. A source familiar with Sony’s plans for the PS5 Pro tells me that all games released from September 16th onwards have to be compatible with the PS5 Pro, which suggests that Sony’s official announcement about this console will come very soon.

If we have to bet, next week on PlayStation, they should announce a new State of Play that officially announces the console. Now, we need to know two key things: the release date and price.
