Adobe Photoshop CS3Adobe’s Photoshop is probably one of the best applications ever created, but it’s also one of the most complex. If you don’t take time to learn how it works, there’s no way you’ll be able to make full use of all its capabilities and features. And if you ever want to get serious with design, image manipulation or photo retouching, you’ll have to tame Photoshop to do all the tricks you want. Now, I personally think the best way to really get familiar with it is to get your hands dirty. Find an idea, a project you feel like doing, and stick to Photoshop. Not only will you have a goal, which will motivate you, you’ll also have certain steps to undertake. To pass these steps you’ll have to play around with Photoshop, click around and experiment, until you get that effect or image you’re looking for.

A little help, of course, is always welcome. Here on insideTonic, we’ve already offered, and plan on bringing you more tips on how to use Photoshop. You can also go to the excellent Living Photoshop blog by Adobe’s Scott Byer. It has good advice, news from the Photoshop world and updates on Photoshop events happening worldwide. Another excellent source is photoshopsupport.com. This site brings not only tutorials and resources but also links to plugins, brushes and other tools you can install to your copy of the software. Finally, for you keyboard crazy people, I’d suggest taking a look at this list of 28 Photoshop shortcuts. Memorizing these will save you a lot of time and effort when working on projects under Photoshop.
