Spider-Man faces multiple deaths in 2024 and beyond: Marvel lines up grim endings

Marvel has several Spider-Man deaths on deck for 2024 and beyond, with Peter Parker heading toward a string of dark endings across the comics and even the game-adjacent lore.

The biggest one sits in Marvel’s new Ultimate line. This version of Peter is older, married, raising kids, and a lot of readers have taken to him because his life finally feels a little more grown up. In “Ultimate Endgame,” the Maker kills him. On another front, Marvel Rivals lore hints at a different fallen Spider-Man, with Daredevil holding Peter as he dies. And over in the main Earth-616 continuity, Marvel is setting up “Eight Deaths of Spider-Man” for late 2024: Doctor Doom, now Sorcerer Supreme, gives Peter Parker a magical suit and eight extra lives to take on a mystical threat.

If you keep up with Spider-Man on a regular basis, this is something to watch. Still, Marvel has pulled this move before.

Back in 2011, “Death of Spider-Man” in the original Ultimate Universe cleared the path for Miles Morales. Peter Parker has also died, or gotten close enough to count, in stories involving Morlun and Doctor Octopus before making his way back through resurrections, body-swaps, mystical loopholes, and the usual comic-book logic.

So the reaction has split between real shock and a lot of skepticism. Most fans don’t expect Marvel to permanently retire one of its biggest characters.
