Spider-Noir’s showrunner has a clear idea of what a hypothetical second season of the series would be like

It was recently announced that Spider-Noir wouldn’t be back for a second season. Two days later, the series would win five Emmys, proving that it doesn’t matter how successful a series is right now: that won’t stop a show from being canceled. And now Variety has spoken with its showrunner, Oren Uziel, to get his opinion on it. He, understandably, has a lot of mixed feelings.

A series that could return even stronger

On the possibility of it returning for a second season after its Emmy success, he said that “we haven’t gotten to that point yet. I literally don’t know the legal aspects and complications of that. But I suppose it’s a complicated proposition”. And it’s not like he doesn’t have ideas for the second season, “If it were up to me, it’d probably be somewhere else. There are so many L.A. noirs we could’ve dived into. There are European noirs we could’ve dived into. There are other places to go. You start in 1933. Where does that go? It goes toward the most cataclysmic moment: World War II. There was a lot there to work with in terms of stories”.

What’s more, he has confirmed that, despite everything, Emmy night was very special. Because “at first I thought the moment was going to be disappointing. I didn’t want people going into this big night having to worry or think about something disappointing or sad. But the truth is that it became a kind of big celebration of what we achieved together”.

That’s why, while it seems things are still up in the air, it doesn’t seem totally impossible for the series to return in the future. Although if it doesn’t return, at least it’s had a very good season, with acclaim from critics and audiences, with everyone involved delighted with the result. Which, at the end of the day, says a lot.
