Star Wars: Zero Company leads August 2026 releases: bigger hits are still coming

August 2026’s game lineup is on the lighter side, and the biggest name in it is Star Wars: Zero Company, due out August 27 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. After how packed the first half of the year was, August feels quieter, not like another month of wall-to-wall blockbusters. Zero Company is a single-player, turn-based tactics game set during the Clone Wars, and it lines up neatly with one of 2026’s clearer trends so far: more story-driven, single-player releases hitting multiple platforms at once.

There’s also the possible return of Metal Gear Solid 4 through Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which is expected in August and would finally pull Metal Gear Solid 4 out of PlayStation 3 exclusivity. Mortal Shell 2 follows on August 20. Then you’ve got Beast of Reincarnation from Game Freak, plus Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, giving the month a little more spread across action, RPGs, and fighting games.

If you’re looking a bit further ahead, August still matters. Gamescom runs August 24 through 30 in Cologne, Germany, bringing the usual mix of world premieres, new trailers, and previews of games aimed at late 2026. Some of the month’s biggest stories may come from holiday-season reveals, not from the games actually releasing.

And if release calendars stay where they are, things get much busier starting in September. Marvel’s Wolverine, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Grand Theft Auto 6, still scheduled for November right now, make August feel less like an empty patch and more like a pause before the rush.
