We had Sony’s first State of Play of this 2023… and the result was not what many of us imagined. The show was slow in pace, with almost 45 minutes of duration of which a quarter of an hour was dedicated to Suicide Squad. Likewise, the rest was complemented with some virtual reality titles the week VR comes out, as well as third party titles from other companies.

Let’s go with the review of everything that has been told in this State of Play of February 23, 2023.

VR2 Block

The Foglands (2023)

The first VR title is The Foglands, a production that features elements based on action shooters and roguelikes. “The player will have to explore what lies behind the dangerous fog to resolve a conflict that threatens their home,” comments the synopsis. “In each game, players will have to take on enemies and bosses with punches, throws and shots to advance through the floors and reach the end.” It will be released in 2023.

Green Hell VR (2023)

In Green Hell we will play the role of Jake Higgins, a famous anthropologist who gets lost in the Amazon jungle. We will be surrounded by all kinds of dangers and equipped only with a watch, a backpack and a practical survival guide. The goal: to resist and return to civilization.

Synapse (2023)

nDreams launches Synapse. The studio already has a lot of experience in the field of virtual reality, so it has set to work with this original proposal that combines action with exploration.

“Our intention was to give players the freedom to shape and master their combat style using both hands, one for telekinesis and the other for a deadly arsenal. You decide how to employ this lethal combination,” notes James Shepherd. “For example, one thing I love about the weapons in Synapse is the ability to reload them by hitting the magazine with any surface, such as your hand, the object you’re hiding behind, your own chest or, my favorite, the head of an enemy you’ve lured to you via telekinesis.”

Journey to Foundation (Fall 2023)

In Journey to Foundation we play as Ward, an agent of the powerful Public Safety Commission who is sent to investigate civil unrest in the confines of the Galactic Empire. The Empire has maintained peace in the galaxy for over 12,000 years, but it is beginning to crack. It is based on the popular work by Isaac Asimov.

Before your Eyes (March 10, 2023)

The fifth and last videogame announced today is Before your Eyes. An original proposal where we will go through the complete life of the protagonist through a viewfinder, both the good moments and the bad ones. It looks very interesting.

Humanity (May 2023)

Do you like dogs? If the answer is yes, here’s another one: do you like shiba dogs? The most popular dog in Japan stars in this game where we will have to give meaning to the lives of human beings, through original puzzles and tests, each one more colorful than the next. Humanity’s game concept is hilarious.

Goodbye Volcano High (June 15, 2023)

This beautiful animated narrative adventure was one of the surprises of the event. Announced in June 2020, we finally have a release date for Goodbye Volcano High, a title where we will have to know the story of this band composed of anthropomorphic dinosaurs. The future of the members and what life will bring are some of the answers we will have to obtain.

Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections (2023)

Bandai Namco also joined the event with the announcement of Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, a new installment of the Ultimate Ninja franchise to be released in 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.

“Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections will offer the largest roster of characters ever seen in a Narturo game, with new faces such as Ashura or Indra Otsutsuki,” comments the development team. “The game follows the successful franchise and takes it even further with spectacular graphics that mimic the animated series, as well as dynamic combat that reaches up to 60 fps on PlayStation 5, Xbox X|S Series and PC. The game’s story mode will include a selection of moments from the Naruto storyline, delving into the deep connection between Naruto and Sasuke. In addition to this, the game will also feature a new original story.”

Resident Evil 4 (March 24, 2023)

There is barely a month left before the Resident Evil 4 remake arrives among us. Capcom has shown more footage at the Sony event, with interesting gameplay news.

The first one is that we will have a demo of the game soon. There is no specific date, only that it will be available in digital stores. Likewise, the return of “Mercenaries Mode” has also been announced. “The popular extra game mode that appears throughout the Resident Evil series is also in RE4. The team is working very hard on Mercenaries, which will arrive as free DLC after the game’s release,” Capcom notes. In the trailer you can also see the impressive fight between Leon and Krauser, one of the most iconic from the original game.

Suicide Squad (May 26, 2023)

The last game and the one to which more time was dedicated: Suicide Squad (depending on how you look at it). Developed by Rocksteady, in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League we will have the main villains united together to defeat hordes of soldiers corrupted by Brainiac, as well as an artillery cannon that has appeared on Earth.

“With Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, we wanted to create a game where the city itself was part of the combat,” says the studio. “To achieve this, we knew we had to create our biggest map to date, as Metropolis is more than twice the size of Gotham in Batman: Arkham Knight. But this isn’t just about size: we’ve added a great level of detail and personality to the world to bring it to life, just as players have come to expect from us.”

Up to four players will be able to play simultaneously, since cooperative play is the strong point.
