It hasn’t even been a month and Steam has already broken its record for concurrent players. Last month it reached 37.2 million concurrent players, which was already the best we had seen.
Yesterday, it reached the astonishing figure of 38.3 million concurrent players, the highest number of all time. In 2024, Steam’s concurrent players will continue to increase.
Although the average number of concurrent players is usually several million fewer (right now there are 24 million connected on a Monday morning), the overall increase in the number of players is obvious in the graph.
However, this is the first time that the average number of simultaneous players on Steam has not fallen below 30 million.
The Monkey’s Journey to the West Has Helped Achieve This Record
Since the release of Black Myth: Wukong, the total number of concurrent players has increased dramatically. The game reached nearly 2.3 million concurrent players at the time of its release, and although it does not come close to this peak number of players, it still manages to reach up to half a million concurrent players at its peak and more than 100,000 concurrent players on average.
These numbers allow it to be among the 10 most played games on Steam in the client at this moment worldwide. The rest of the 10 most played games are mainly multiplayer, with Counter-Strike 2 leading with a peak of concurrent players around 1.45 million and an average of more than 900,000 concurrent players.

The second is Dota 2, with more than 700,000 concurrent players at its peak and a steady average of more than 600,000 concurrent players.
Except for a few titles in the top 10, most are free multiplayer games that surpass hundreds of thousands of simultaneous players both at peak and on average. GTA V has an average of 160,000 daily players, which is not bad.
There is no doubt whether PC gamers are increasing or not, as Steam’s graphics show the obvious, but the PC hardware market also reveals that hardware shipments are increasing each quarter. AI PCs are the most popular right now, and they are expected to grow to 60% of all PCs shipped by 2027.
