Steam Deck is no longer compatible with GTA V and it’s Rockstar’s fault

GTA V is one of the most profitable entertainment products in history. Despite being on the market for over 10 years, Rockstar’s title remains among the best sellers on platforms like Steam. However, its online mode is no longer available on Steam Deck.

If we go on Steam, we will see that the platform has labeled GTA V as “Not compatible.” The reason? Rockstar has decided that Valve’s console is not compatible with its online mode.

Just like Fortnite and Roblox, Rockstar has stopped supporting Steam Deck due to BattlEye, the anti-cheat program used by GTA Online. According to Rockstar, the fault lies with Valve because “Steam Deck is not compatible with BattlEye.”

Due to this, the developers of GTA V have decided to completely remove GTA Online, and for now, it will not be playable on Steam Deck. On their support page, Rockstar clarifies that, at least, you will be able to play the Story Mode of GTA V.

However, the truth is that BattlEye does work on Steam Deck. In 2021, the platform already stated that the anticheat is so integrated into Proton that if a developer wants to enable it, they just have to “get in touch with BattlEye” to do so. Being as easy as it seems, will we be able to see GTA Online running on Steam Deck again?
