Okay, this one we didn’t see coming: Stranger Things will have a prequel… in the form of a stage play. The Netflix series spearheaded by the Duffer Brothers is still the platform’s biggest hit, but it’s been almost a year since its fourth season premiered and season 5 won’t arrive until 2024.
Therefore, as a teaser for what is to come, a spin-off of the fiction has been announced in the form of a play. The title of the play is Stranger Things: The First Shadow, and it is a prequel that will premiere in London’s West End later this year.
What will Stranger Things: The First Shadow be about?
The writer of Stranger Things: The First Shadow is Kate Trefry, who has been a writer on the series since season 2. The director will be Stephen Daldry, director of the film Billy Elliot and The Reader. He is a highly acclaimed theater director in the UK, so the show is in good hands. The Duffers, meanwhile, serve as executive producers.
But what will the Stranger Things prequel be about? The official synopsis is as follows:
“Young Jim Hopper‘s car won’t start, Bob Newby‘s sister isn’t taking her radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family discovers that starting from scratch isn’t so easy…and that the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”
The plot, therefore, follows the story of a young Hopper and Joyce long before the events of the series. Both must deal with the first days of darkness in the city of Hawkins, when Vecna is not yet in power but the Back to Front World already stalks their peace of mind.
The news has arrived along with a poster inspired by the artwork of Saul Bass, but we still don’t have more images of the production or confirmation of the cast. Be that as it may, it looks set to follow in the wake of other plays such as Harry Potter and the Cursed Legacy, which was already a hit on the London theater scene.
