The first State of Play of the year took place this week. The event organized by PlayStation gave us a glimpse of some of the upcoming releases coming to PlayStation consoles, though with a special focus on VR and indie titles. Well, and also the upcoming Suicide Squad video game, which had 15 minutes to itself.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the next video game developed by Rocksteady, the creators of the Batman Arkham saga, which places us several years after the events of Batman Arkham Knight in a Metropolis ravaged by an alien invasion unprecedented in the DC universe. Why? Because aliens have taken control of the minds of Earth’s greatest superheroes.
In Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, we will control the infamous Suicide Squad in a third-person action shooter where our objective will be to kill the members of the Justice League that are under the control of the fearsome Brainiac. And it will not be an easy task, since the group formed by Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, King Shark and Deadshot will have to deal with superheroes like The Flash, Batman or Superman himself, who will not be as friendly as we remember.
At this Thursday’s State of Play, we saw the four members of the Suicide Squad, led by the relentless Amanda Waller, in action. Through a myriad of aerial pirouettes and shooting left and right, those who saw the event could appreciate how Rocksteady’s new title draws more from the Borderlands franchise than from the Batman Arkham saga, which is more focused on stealth.
In this cooperative video game, we will have the opportunity to play with up to three friends to defeat a multitude of aliens and enemy ships that will confront us, and we will have to get out of the way with all the offensive force at our disposal (which is not little). As in the Borderlands saga, we can also play the story by ourselves, without anyone’s help, although the characteristics of the game added to the characteristic acid humor of Suicide Squad will make you want to play it with a friend, just for the laughs.
Similarities with Borderlands that do not end there, as we can also equip the Suicide Squad with a lot of different weapons and accessories that will change both their stats and their appearance, being able to see our beloved and infamous antiheroes fighting aliens with the visual style we choose for them (a more complete customization than in the Borderlands saga, it must be said).
However, one of the clear differences when it comes to playing this cooperative story mode will be that we will be forced to be connected to the Internet, something that was not required by any video game of the Borderlands saga (fortunately). Even if you want to play alone, accompanied by three machine-driven companions, the next Suicide Squad game will require you to be online to play. The reason? Unknown at this time.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Legue will live up to its name, being released on May 26 this year; that is, just two weeks after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, which is scheduled for May 12. Even so, the proposal is different enough for those who want to enjoy unbridled action with their friends to buy the videogame as well.
