Summer Games Done Quick raises 2.4 million dollars for Doctors Without Borders

The 2026 edition of Summer Game Done Quick, or SGDQ, ended last Sunday, July 12, having raised more than $2.4 million for the charity Doctors Without Borders. This is a new record for this charity event held every year, becoming one of the focal points for speedrun fans, both those who do them and those who enjoy watching them, and who gather here for a charity event.

An event with a long history

Games Done Quick is a semiannual marathon organized by the Speed Demos Archives and SpeedrunsLive communities that has been held twice a year since January 1, 2010, seeking to encourage appreciation for speedrunning while supporting charitable causes. Something that has only kept growing over time.

This year’s edition was held in Minneapolis, with around 2,500 people in attendance. It could also be watched via livestream, tens of thousands of people watched it on its official Twitch channel or its various regional rebroadcast channels. This shows that it’s become the main hub for the world’s speedrun community.

This year, the runs of Balatro, a new world record in Kirby Air Riders and another in UFO 50, as well as an especially fun run of Slay the Spire 2 that they called Skeleton Wars, were especially noteworthy. All of them available to watch on their YouTube channel for those who want to watch them later. This shows their commitment to the community that has supported them throughout this nearly 24/7 week-long event.
