The movie Super Mario Galaxy has exceeded box office expectations, grossing 628 million dollars in its first week and a half. With a budget of 110 million, the film is on track to surpass one billion, marking a remarkable comeback for theaters in 2026. This success comes in a context where it faces no real competition until the release of Michael, the biopic of Michael Jackson, scheduled for April 24.
Mamma mia!
The results are significant not only for the Nintendo franchise but for the film industry in general. The U.S. box office has surpassed $2 billion, with a 24.9% increase compared to the previous year. In Spain, the figure is even more encouraging, exceeding 40% compared to 2025. This growth is attributed to a release strategy that has diversified the audience, not limiting itself only to superhero movies and franchises.
Together with Super Mario Galaxy, Project Salvation has raised an additional 24.5 million, achieving a worldwide total that exceeds 500 million. This phenomenon indicates that the audience is willing to support science fiction productions outside of the major franchises. The drama, starring Zendaya, continues to strengthen its position, showing positive performance by generating significant profits with an investment of only 28 million.
In the landscape of recent releases, Italiana and the remake of Faces of Death have also begun their journey, with performances that are making an impact at the box office. As we move further into the year, the future of cinema seems promising, although projections indicate a possible shift in the distribution of productions. Could this mark a paradigm shift in Hollywood? Only time will tell.
