Terminator Genisys, the 2015 Terminator reboot, has landed on Pluto TV in the U.S. for free, so there’s now a no-cost way to go back to it.
If you missed it in theaters, or just never got around to seeing how the Terminator series tried to rewrite its own timeline, the ad-supported stream is there waiting. This was supposed to kick off a new trilogy. It wound up as another false start, and Terminator: Dark Fate later ran into the same wall when it tried to reset the franchise again.
On paper, it had a lot working in its favor: Arnold Schwarzenegger, familiar mythology, and a reported budget of more than $155 million. It still brought in about $440 million worldwide, which makes it the second-biggest global hit in the Terminator franchise, but weak domestic numbers and a total lack of momentum killed the follow-ups.
Critics weren’t kind. Terminator Genisys holds a 26% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and reports from production described a troubled shoot, while director Alan Taylor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Emilia Clarke all later sounded unconvinced by where the reboot ended up. If you’ve ever been curious about one of Hollywood’s messier attempts at reviving a franchise, this free stream is a pretty good reason to finally watch it, especially with Skydance still holding the rights, James Cameron developing another film without Schwarzenegger, and Netflix keeping the brand going with Terminator Zero.
You can watch Terminator Genisys now on Pluto TV in the United States.
