The story surrounding Beeper Mini, dubbed the “iMessage for Android,” continues onward. Following Apple’s ban on the application, Beeper is back in action, but with somewhat more limited functionality than before.
And indeed, Beeper Mini had everything to succeed. The application had been designed for Android users to receive and send messages using the iMessage text protocol. Its goal was clear: to put an end to the war between the “blue bubbles” of iMessage and the “green bubbles” of Android (or rather, SMS). As expected, Apple wasn’t thrilled with this idea and blocked the service, arguing that it posed “significant risks.”

On December 11th, Beeper Mini regained connectivity, but with some notable changes in place. While previously all it took was to set up our phone to start chatting, now we’ll need to log in with our Apple ID. Despite having an additional step in the process, the essence of Beeper Mini remains intact, and we’ll still be able to communicate via iMessage from an Android device.
Apart from the changes, the Beeper team remains committed to reintegrating phone number registration, but this is planned for later without a set return date. Now, Beeper Mini pursues a much more significant goal: establishing itself as a successful service within the Android ecosystem.
Now we’re left with asking ourselves the million-dollar question: Will Apple allow Beeper Mini to continue existing? For now, the app is still functioning and active within Android. On the other hand, the company has already announced that it would update the Messages app to support the RCS standard, a replacement for the current SMS and MMS standards. Will this transition serve to leave apps like Beeper Mini behind?
