The acclaimed Prime Video series, The Boys, has released its fifth and final season, a conclusion that has generated great anticipation among its followers. This batch of episodes has not been without controversies, especially regarding its episode originally titled Assassination Run, which depicts an assassination attempt against the fictional president Robert Singer, played by Jim Beaver.

Showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that the episode faced serious difficulties before its airing, as its content resembled a real attack that occurred on July 13, 2024, just a week before its premiere. This fact led Amazon’s management to consider the possibility of pulling the episode, but ultimately, Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, decided to authorize its airing after modifying the title, considering it a change to a tasteless title.
Kripke shared his experience about the decision-making process in an interview with Polygon, commenting on the anxiety that the situation generated for him as the episode director. The response was: ‘Change the title, but if it’s different enough, we’ll back it up,’ he expressed. This series, known for its critique of political reality, has found in satire a means to channel the frustrations of the current climate, providing its creator with a sense of catharsis.
In addition, SensaCine highlights in its review that the fifth season of The Boys bids farewell with a more realistic approach than ever, a characteristic that has defined the series since its inception. Kripke has expressed that he will miss having a space to process political reality, a role that the series provided him during its production.
