The Call of Duty movie is already a reality, but to see it you will have to wait longer than you thought

Paramount has officially confirmed that it is developing a movie based on the famous video game franchise Call of Duty. Announced in September of last year, the movie is scheduled to be released on June 30, 2028, and although there are still more than two years to go, the millions of fans of this franchise are already very excited.

Faithful to video games?

The screenwriters behind the project are Taylor Sheridan, known for his work on Sicario, and Peter Berg, who has a notable track record in the industry and previous experience with Activision directing promotional short films for the franchise. This choice of screenwriters has generated a certain optimism, although many questions about the development of the film still persist.

So far, the setting of the plot, the characters that will appear, or the cast have not been confirmed, leaving room for various speculations. Fans are wondering if the movie will be based on any of the Call of Duty sub-sagas, such as the iconic figure of Captain Price, or if it will choose to create a completely original narrative. In this context, Paramount’s efforts to ensure a high-quality adaptation, similar to the commitment demonstrated in the production of Top Gun: Maverick, are especially relevant.

However, the current situation of the franchise adds a shade of uncertainty. The latest installment, Black Ops 7, had disappointing performance, raising questions about how it could impact the reception of the movie. Whether the success or failure of this adaptation will depend on whether the film can revitalize interest in the IP, or if, conversely, it will be Activision’s responsibility to regain the popularity of Call of Duty through its upcoming releases.
