The creator of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds confirms the abandonment of his survival game

PlayerUnknown Productions has confirmed a restructuring process that will lead to layoffs at the company, as well as the halt of the project Prologue: Go Wayback, the survival roguelike from the studio’s founder and creator of PlayerUnknown’s BattleGround (commonly abbreviated as PUBG), Brendan Greene.

A project that has not gone as they expected

Regarding this, Greene has stated that “our goal has been to develop a technology that allows us to break the limits at the scale level (…), to achieve this we created a research team to develop the Melba technology, and a team to apply it practically with Prologue: Go Wayback”. But as he himself has stated, “I have reached the limit of what I can finance this adventure”.

This does not mean that PUBG or the Melba technology will come to an end. PUBG will continue to operate as it has been, without any issues. Meanwhile, “we will continue to develop the Melba technology with a smaller team, while the development of Go Wayback is put on hold,” in Greene’s own words.

Meanwhile, they have stated that their plan is to refund everyone who has purchased Prologue: Go Wayback as they cannot ensure that it will be completed in the future. Also because their plan is for the current iteration of the game to be released in a free version soon thanks to an upcoming update. It seems that, although they have decided to abandon the project for now, they do not want everything they have done to go to waste. Allowing players to enjoy, at least, everything they have already created.
