The creator of ‘The Sopranos’ wants to make a new series. The reason, how badly everything is going in the United States.

David Chase is 80 years old, and at this point the film and TV industry has all but written him off. But of course, he’s still the creator of The Sopranos, which is still going strong to this day. In fact, he’s just finished production on his first series in almost 20 years, MKUltra, and he has ideas for what to do next… And, definitely, we should listen to him and take notes.

Wake up this morning…

Invited to the Karlovy Vary festival, Chase has spoken about another idea he has that’s tangentially related to The Sopranos: “I’d like to do something about Italian Americans… this is happening a lot lately, Italian Americans buying property in Italy, because properties there are apparently dirt cheap. Lorraine Bracco, who played Dr. Jennifer Melfi on The Sopranos, bought one for next to nothing”.

The seven-time Emmy winner has no doubts about it: “They sell those houses in abandoned towns, and all kinds of Americans are buying them and moving because things in our country are questionable. I’d like to do a story about four Italian Americans who go back to Europe, and the surprises waiting for them”. If it’s more The Sopranos than Emily in Paris, go all in.

Also, apparently, Chase wants to get back together with the team from his film Not Fade Away (John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill and Bella Heathcote) to make another one. And yes, despite his age, he’s on board: “They want us to make another movie together, and so do I, not on the same subject, but with the same team. I’d like to do it”. If only we had Chase’s energy at half his age.
